Some stuff went down this week. Otherwise known as 'how I just became a full time blogger'

Thursday I woke up thinking it was just another day. Then it wasn't. It was the type where HR turns up, and your Manager asks to have a word.

My Manager was explaining something. He went on for a bit. I was getting a little lost, and a little bored. Then he got to the point. My role was being restructured and I was no longer qualified for the position. My job had become redundant, effective immediately.

Redundancy was no stranger. My first job saw me move to Brisbane (an hour away) to keep a job. From there I took a secondment role as part of a merger. That role became redundant. I was a Temp for a bit. As luck would have it, I met my husband-to-be at my next full time job. That company went through two mergers. Back then uncertainty was scary.

I am proud to say, this time I was cool as a cucumber. I understood. They weren't rejecting me, Jeanie Irving. They were asking if I was willing to relocate. They offered me the Employee Assistance Program details. By now the unexpected shock was wearing off.

I looked up and noticed
two very nervous people
looking back at me.
I had to reassure THEM it was all okay.

What they didn't know was, after four years how bored I had become. How I longed for a more creative role. How this was opening the path for something new. How I had wished and prayed for an exciting change. I depart on the best of terms. It was a good job with a great salary. I can boast my desk was the biggest and had a window view. Best of all I had fabulous co-workers. They will be greatly missed.  (Except for you Colin. Just kidding).

These are the gals who knew a TS 14 Plus voucher and red wine glasses would be the perfect farewell gift. Thank you to everyone at the office. You do know me all too well.  As luck would have it, I'm now available to 'do lunch'.

What is next?...

Maybe a break where I let myself unwind for a bit. Perhaps I'll fly to Queensland for a few days to visit family. I might approach a few brands I'd love to work with. With my new hiring? page maybe the next opportunity will come knocking.

What I'm looking forward to...

Walks when the sun is shining. Nanna naps. Letting my weekends be weekends and doing the housework during the week. Exploring Geelong with my camera. Writing blog posts more often. Sitting at my craft table and having time to re-discover my bead collection and soldering torch. Reading a book, I hear 52 Shades of Grey is interesting.

So this was my week. How was yours?

  1. Wow scary stuff! I work in QLD for a large public service we are going through the same with our team. At present I have not been involved but I know there are going to be changes. I am really trying to think there is something bigger & better out there for me. I admire your courage, Leisa Flanigan

    1. Leisa it doesn't have to be scary. I've been through many company mergers, and this is my second redundancy. Yes it can be scary when going through it, especially if there is a lot of 'water cooler talk' during a merger. People really tend not to like change. However, view each as an opportunity and it becomes that. Each change can lead to something better.
