Aussie Curves - Stripes

Creating an outfit inspired by a theme is such a hoot! Who knew Aussie Curves would be such fun. This week I dived into my wardrobe in search of stripes. Turns out I don't own any. Thanks to a shiny nail finding its way into my car tyre, I found myself near Kmart for an hour this week. I picked up this gorgeous black and white maxi skirt complete with stripes.

With the aim of creating outfits I would actually wear, I teamed the skirt with a colourful t-shirt. I wear tees often.  They're comfy and don't require ironing (bonus!). The outfit looked a little too casual. Layered with an asymmetrical TS14+ vest it looked a little more dressy, and more like me.

As the skirt was plenty busy, I kept the accessories simple. A black necklace that I picked up from Equip long ago. I got it as part of a 3 pieces for $10 sale. The earrings are made by yours truly. I made the mould using silicon and clay. I drilled the holes and made the ear hooks. Not just a pretty face. The earrings are dramatic. I don't get many opportunities to wear them.

Remember these shoes from the Tribal challenge? I found the shoe vamp all wrong for that outfit and decided to change to a cute nude shoe. I assumed that meant these shoes were destined for pants or a long skirt.  They worked a treat with this stripy maxi skirt.

My disposable income disappeared when my role was made redundant in July. I'm keen to enjoy an extended break. My spending habits have had to change to accommodate that. This skirt was the perfect price of $19. I had become accustom to TS designs. I wanted to scrunch the side of the skirt up. Nope, this design doesn't do that. At $19 I wont complain. I'm delightfully surprised the skirt is lovely to wear. It's comfy and the fabric is so soft.

The resin bangle is a delicious milky colour. I created that also. I really must get back into creating jewellery. I have lots of unfinished pieces that have been sitting around for months waiting for some lovin. The width of the bangle seemed to work with the stripes in the skirt.

Not sure where I got this ring from. A store on the Gold Coast. When I saw it I was giddy with excitement and thought it was the nicest piece of jewellery I had ever seen. That was before the days of Etsy and Madeit.

  3. Note to self: Get to Kmart...

I love the outfit! Very similar to what my sister wore, however that added vest really does make the outfit! I think she will be off to search for one now! haha!

How clever that you made your own earrings!! They are fab!

    1. Oh yes the vest is awesome. The cost per wear must be down to cents now. Mine gets a lot of use! It works with jeans, a skirt, and dresses. A real versatile piece.

  4. Monday is fast becoming my favourite day of the week too! That skirt was a definite bargain, and looks so gorgeous on you with the emerald green.

Your jewellery is beautiful! You should really consider setting up your own etsy store.

    1. I really like the feel of wearing a long skirt, something I don't tend to do. One Dress Down Friday I received a lot of 'hellos' wearing that shirt. I thought it was a calming (approachable) colour, it just be MY colour =)

I did sell my jewellery at Madeit for a year. Worked out I was paying myself $2 an hour. Crazy! I continued blogging as I loved that too.

    1. Yes I am loving the feel of a long skirt on me. I used to save long skirts for the office. I love that this casual stripy skirt can be worn at home. It's helping me hid my unshaven legs at the moment (so I can test out my new Veet).

    1. Thanks Cherie, you make a girl blush. But please don't stop! LOL.
I did have a stripe tee that was super cute but it was too small. Must have shrunk. Yeah, that's it, the shirt shrunk. =)

    1. I'm hanging my head in shame... no stripes! Unless you count that tee I have (which is super cute) but 2 sizes too small. I'm not anti stripes, for some reason they never made it into my wardrobe. This was the perfect excuse to add some.

  11. Have you thought about making jewelry to sell? You certainly seem to have the talent!

I love the skirt, Kmart can have some amazing bargains, and while i'm not really a fan of green, it looks SO good with the stripes!

    1. Thanks Natalie. Yes I used to sell jewellery. Attended a bunch of creative workshops. Learnt how to make my own resin moulds, and also learnt how to solder. Have waaaaay too many supplies. I have 39 resin colours last count. I think I have 3 or 5 draws full of beads. Now I create just for me.

Initially I had a black tee on. The photos were grainy (someone got the camera settings all wrong) but they were super dull looking. Too much black. Green certainly freshened the look up.

    1. Thank you. I'm keen to venture back into Kmart soon to see what else I can snap up. One of the other ladies had a great striped blazer from there.

  13. love the outfit - kmart has some sneaky stylish bargains every so often. But majorly crushing on your jewellery making skills.......especially the bangles (as a wide handed girl). Start selling that stuff to Aussie Curves ladies.....

    1. Thanks Claire. I used to sell jewellery I made but found I was paying myself something like $2 an hour. Say it takes 1 hour to make the mould, 3 hours in sanding. No one wants to pay $20 an hour x 4 hours for 1 bangle. There are super cheap stores around for accessories. It's a fun creative outlet though.

  14. Wow this outfit is amazing!! Love the green on you. I'm always afraid of wearing stripes as I've heard that they can make you look bigger ... it appears that this is an old wives tale.

    1. Thanks Christine. =) Stripes can be your friend. The width and spacing of stripes will have different effects (slimming/widening). Also, my stripes are more diagonal. Diagonal lines lengthen the body. Otherwise, simply wear what you feel good in. That's always a good gauge to what works.
