This week I decided accessories would make the outfit. I had hoped to find a few pieces in turquoise that would work with the tribal theme. That didn't happen. Instead I found a cute skirt at Suzanne Grae for $50. Plus some accessories that were on sale. I got a necklace, earrings and ring. All for $25 from Lovisa. Perfect I had my look! A whole new style for less than $100.
I had a lot of trouble deciding which pieces worked best for this outfit. I wanted to wear a black shirt and my TS shoes that seemed to work with the theme. I felt edgy. However the camera preview showed a short frumpy woman. Eekk! Admittedly at that stage I hadn't done much with my hair, but something was off. I took a few photos wearing different items and then looked at those photos on the computer. It's a Visual Diary technique that works a treat.
Looking at the side by side photos I could make an easy comparison. Notice how the skin toned shoes make my legs look longer. The shoes also have a low vamp extending the length of the leg. Not sure what a shoe vamp is? The nude colour shoes are a low vamp. The black shoes are a high vamp. It's where the shoe front ends - low or high.

My main goal was to create a look that was very me. I think the new additions to my wardrobe suit me and will be worn often. I love wearing the ring. It's comfortable and I like the pattern.

You have great ankles. They are slim and the nude shoes feature them. Thats why the outfit looks best with those shoes. Its a great way of making a clothing decision.Love the choices.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I wanted to make the black shoes work, but the images made me cringe a bit. Nude shoes worked a treat.
Deletelove love love that ring!
ReplyDeleteThanks Fi, I keep wearing the ring. It's comfy and cute.
DeleteI had one outfit that I took photos of but thought I looked frumpy too. I change into a different one, which in person looked much better and seemed to look better int he photos. Until I loaded them into the computer, and I decided the first lot looked better afterall!!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how swapping the top and shoes just altered the look so dramatically!
Hi, Yes small changes can make a big difference. I always pick which shoes I'll wear in front of a mirror for that reason. Thanks.
DeleteThis is such a great look on you and I love the little shoe lesson you gave us! Cute last shot too! Oh and I love that you're breaking it up with sitting shots too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda. I did the sitting shots because I was getting bored. It was raining outside and I really wanted to take these photos down by the park for some awesome scenery shots. Reason 93237 for not leaving these photos til the day before.
DeleteGorgeous photos and colours- I particularly love your skirt, that style looks great on you! Ring also is awesome. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Bek, I've been wearing the ring all day, it's on my hand now. Loving it a lot. Oh, and I'm wearing the skirt now too. LOL Love that I found a look that worked for my personal style.
Deletereally awesome blog this week. Love this look on you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Georgia, I feel very comfortable in this look.
Deletegreat outfits as usual :-) loving those colours!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I wasn't sure about the colours in the skirt, but they've grown on me.
DeleteThat necklace is lovely, I love Lovisa :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Omega, I still can't believe I got 3 pieces for $25. The necklace and ring is just awesome!
DeleteI really love the side by side photos! I agree the red and nude look much more fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThanks Olivia, the side by side helped me pick what to wear. Figured that would be good to share. Glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteI like both outfits!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I liked both outfits, I just don't like looking even shorter than I already am LOL. It would totally work for a taller person.
DeleteThe rusty red top works so much better than the black! You look gorgeous this week. btw - I seriously need to get to Lovisa soon...that necklace is stunning!
ReplyDeleteOh Lovisa is awesome, and this necklace is great. Thanks Lisa.
Deletered and nude for the win.........although those black shoes are pretty awesome. great pics again Jeanie.....so jealous
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yes I'll have to work out how to make the black shoes work. Maybe with jeans or a long skirt? We may see them again down the track.
DeleteGorgeous Jeanie. And for me, nude shoes are always SUCH a win. Longer legs, slimmer ankles and all that. What's not to love. You look gorgeous and your photos, as always, are an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa, yes the nude show was purchased specifically for that reason. I noticed I didn't have any and went in search of them. Re the photos, I aspire to have images like Keiko Lynn. I have a long way to go.
DeleteI really love your posts, just because it shows how much time you put into this. It's so polished and I love that, it's like magazine quality. I think seeing the side by side photo is great, I can see the difference and while I liked the black, the other certainly popped more. I think I need to go and look at that skirt because I may be in love with it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie. That means a lot. I aim for magazine quality images. I aspire to have images like Keiko Lynn and Girl with Curves. They're photos leaving me drooling.
DeleteYes the skirt is current season if you go looking for it. Suzanne Grae had a number of tribal looking pieces. (Most of them were too tight a fit for me).
as your Mum, I may be biased but I think you look absolutely beautiful in anything you wear xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Mum =)
Deleteyou are so polished and put together. I really love how you've put the side by side photos, it really make the differences stand out. I like both looks but side by side I'd agree that the rust shirt and nude shoes looks more fresh xx
ReplyDeleteThe side by side comparison is awesome to use. A simple shirt and shoe change makes a huge difference! I look much more lady like with the rust shirt and nude shoes. It's almost like one outfit is for day wear and the other night wear.
DeleteYour necklace is such WIN! love love love :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm loving it too. Total WIN!
DeleteLove the whole outfit!!!!
ReplyDeleteLuv Jac @ Common Chaos Chronicle xox
Thank you Jacqui :)
DeleteWow what a bargain! Absolutely love the print on the skirt! You look gorgeous x
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashley Rose. The print is great. Not my usual colours, but I love that it's a bit different. A nice change! =)
DeleteWOW Jeanie you're looking stunning, that necklace and skirt are sensaish! No playing dressups for me, I wear what I get the theme pics taken for one day through the week. Thank you for your omment;0
ReplyDeleteThanks Cherie. I am glad the skirt and necklace are now part of my wardrobe. Just need the weather to warm a little more now so I can enjoy them more often.
DeleteThe dresses are brilliant combination of styles, colours, fabrics! The tribal printed skirt and the necklace is looking fabulous. You are looking gorgeous on the red colored tops.
