Aussie Curves - Breaking the Rules

Are you a rule breaker? Do you dress by a set of rules? Were you handed down a set of rules from those older and wiser than you. As a kid I remember my Nanna telling me 'blue and green shouldn't be seen'. I love my Nan, but seriously? Have you ever seen an ugly peacock? I didn't think so. Yep, that rule no longer applies.

For this Aussie Curves challenge I'm wearing white pants *gasp* and green nail polish, to match my green top, green earrings, and green shoes. *eye roll* All I'm missing is a green handbag.

Rule:  Full figured women don't wear white. You've heard that myth about hiding your ample body under layers of black. Personally I avoid black, preferring to wear pops of colour in a high contrast. Colour is just more fun looking.

Rule:  Avoid a matchy-matchy look. Matching your shoes to your handbag is considered old fashion. This also goes for matching your wallet or belt. I think matching, if done well, can look great. But I wouldn't match items just because 'I'm meant to'. If you haven't already, toss that rule out the window.

I wear on the outside that which
makes me feel good on the inside

I know I'm really not much of a rule breaker. When I was desperate to learn more about how to dress better. I went in search of "the rules". If there was a cheat sheet on how to dress, I wanted it! Dare I admit, I needed it! After playing around with my look for the last year I finally feel like I can forget the rules and simply dress with what feels right.

Best advice I can give you....
Don't take the "rules" too seriously

    1. Thanks Dani, The gif is a bit of fun. Looking at the pics today I wish I had painted my toe nails green too LOL. I love white pants, it's refreshing and goes with a lot. However they need ironing, so I don't wear these often.

    1. Thanks Norlin, I was flicking through the photos I'd taken when I realised I had the makings of a fun gif. Couldn't pass up the giggle. I don't mind matchy-matchy when its done well on others, but I lean towards complimentary colours in most cases.

  4. I love this look! I am often envious of women in white pants. I have avoided them partly because of the 'No white on my bottom half' rule. However I am now convinced that the right white pants can look great. I think I may be on a 'White pant' quest this summer!

    1. Yes I agree, go on that quest! White is fresh looking, goes with any other colour. They can be worn casual, or dressed up. Hello versatile!

  5. You are wearing BOTH my favorite colors. Green and White... Is white a color (all the colors vs. black is absence of color). I love the nails too. In the U.S. we have a rule that I HATE which is don't wear white after Labor Day (first Monday in September). Boo. I am breaking that this year.

    1. Hi Rebecca, welcome and thanks for commenting =) I've heard of the U.S. rule, do people actually follow that? I say break it just for fun! The nails were a bit much for me. I took that colour off straight after this photo shot. I might use the green with black in some water marbling next week.

  7. ha! my grandma used to say the same thing about blue and green. You always look so put together and I really like the matchy matchy, it's a type of colour blocking...nice :)

    1. Yes I guess it is a type of colour blocking. Now if only I'd painted my toe nails too. LOL

  8. I love matchy-matchy, which is good cos I do it without trying half the time then someone points it out to me.

Colour rules are strange. I was saying today how so many red-heads now wear pink (there was a little red-head girl in a cute pink dress at the park) and that was always a huge NO. It looks good though.

    1. Hello. Yes colour rules seem to be out the window in the current day. I think red heads can certainly wear pink! Colour and accessories are too much fun not to enjoy.

    1. You said last week red was my colour LOL. Oh yes, every lady should own a pair of white pants. I got tired of admiring them on other people and got me some of my very own.

  10. Bwahah, you know what, NO, i've never seen an ugly peacock! My Mum is still a lady who has to have matching shoes and bag, it amuses me at times. I think you look fab in green and I love the gif!

    1. Peacocks are stunning. I had a latte coloured wedding dress (yes a light brown/goldish colour). If I could do that day over again (with the same man ofcourse), I'd choose a peakcock coloured dress & theme instead. My Aunt tells me that in the olden days that would've been considered bad luck. Ha! Another rule!

    1. Glad you like the gif, it was a bit of fun. I get a bit crazy with the photos (most times), was cool to be able to share some of that this time round. =P

  12. It was "blue and green should never be seen - without another colour inbetween" but that rule is definately dead. You look great in these pics hun and the plants on your patio seem to be thriving too.

    1. Thanks, that saying makes more sense now. Yes the plants are going great. They're currently flowering. Succulents are weird looking when they flower.

  15. I try and follow some of Trinny & Susannah's rules and am on the lookout for more lol. One was don't wear black with a colour, like solid black and solid colour I think. And I try to copy their rules for hourglass, especially for jewellery for bigger busts. I have found that the necklace for bigger busts they suggest when you see it on a smaller woman they look flat chested so maybe there is something to it.

    1. Hi Linda, I agree that black and a colour tend to look odd. They typically need something to break the two, like a vest or cardi. Otherwise yeah it looks odd.
